Job Summary

OpenVault is seeking a new member for its Engineering team based either virtually or at the Jersey City, NJ, USA headquarters located directly across the Hudson River from New York City. The individual selected will directly shape the portfolio and product life cycle of OpenVault’s broadband solutions by working to engineer new and support existing database systems and applications. The individual will work closely with existing engineering, operations and management members to ensure solution alignment with OpenVault’s strategic vision and objectives.

The Database / Systems Engineer will work to optimize existing and develop new data driven processes and tools, aligned to both the existing solution portfolio and future product roadmaps. 

To be successful in this role, the Database / Systems Engineer will need to fuse their in-depth understanding of data driven systems and applications with OpenVault’s broadband portfolio which encompasses network optimization, revenue generation, and customer engagement solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for improved performance in SQL operations and implementations
  • Perform technical troubleshooting to diagnose, isolate and correct data and database issues
  • Give design recommendations for database functions that meet business operating standards while improving the efficiency of business processes
  • Provision MySQL instances, both in clustered and non-clustered configurations
  • Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases
  • Prepare documentation and specifications
  • Handle common database procedures, such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc.
  • Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessary
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in MySQL database management
  • Experience with recent versions of MySQL
  • Understanding of MySQL’s underlying storage engines, such as InnoDB and MyISAM
  • Experience with replication configuration in MySQL
  • Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in MySQL
  • Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements
  • Knowledge of MySQL features, such as its event scheduler
  • Ability to plan resource requirements from high-level specifications
  • Familiarity with other SQL/NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as GitHub and SVN
  • Experience with big data architectures and ecosystem components such as Kafka
  • Experience with real-time streaming analytics applications
  • Experience developing and managing data in the petabyte-scale
  • Experience with Redshift or large scale (clustered) systems
  • Experience working in a Linux environment
  • Experience with high availability and dynamic scalability deployments
  • Experience with RDS/Aurora 
  • Experience with ELK or OpenSearch platforms a plus
  • Industry Knowledge of DOCSIS, IPDR, CMTS and Optical technology a plus
  • Understanding of cloud services such as AWS, Azure or Google Cloud a plus
