Job Summary

OpenVault LLC is expanding their Engineering department.  The DBA will keep the database up and running smoothly. The goal is to deliver a seamless flow of information, considering both backend data structure and frontend accessibility for end-users.  This position offers the opportunity to provide support for existing products in addition to collaborating on new development.

The office is based in the New Jersey area, but the position can be remote and reports to the VP of Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Identify opportunities for improved performance in SQL operations and implementations
  • Perform technical troubleshooting to diagnose, isolate and correct data and database issues
  • Give design recommendations for database functions that meet business operating standards while improving the efficiency of business processes
  • Provision MySQL instances, both in clustered and non-clustered configurations
  • Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases
  • Prepare documentations and specifications
  • Handle common database procedures, such as upgrade, backup, recovery, migration, etc.
  • Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak as necessary
  • Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders

Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in MySQL database management
  • Decent experience with recent versions of MySQL
  • Understanding of MySQL’s underlying storage engines, such as InnoDB and MyISAM
  • Experience with replication configuration in MySQL
  • Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in MySQL
  • Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements
  • Knowledge of MySQL features, such as its event scheduler
  • Ability to plan resource requirements from high-level specifications
  • Familiarity with other SQL/NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as GitHub and SVN
  • Experience with big data architectures and ecosystem components such as Kafka
  • Experience with real-time streaming analytics applications
  • Experience developing and managing data in the petabyte-scale
  • Experience with RedShift/BigQuery
  • Experience in implementing machine learning
  • Experience working in a Linux environment
  • Experience with high availability and dynamic scalability deployments
  • Experience with RDS/Aurora
